Emotion regulation and angry mood among adolescents with externalizing problems and intellectual disabilities

Cognitive behavior therapy targeting emotion regulation is found to be effective in decreasing externalizing problems, but little known about the capacities of adolescents with problems and Mild Intellectual Disabilities or Borderline Functioning (MID-BIF). Therefore, aim this study was compare (i.e., anger) capacities, angry mood level variability between two groups: MID-BIF average intelligence (AIQ). Participants (n = 42, Mage 15.52, SD 1.43) AIQ 39, 13.67, 1.06) group completed questionnaires difficulties, strategies, mood. Adolescents reported fewer maladaptive lower levels than group. No between-group differences were found. Lastly, use more behavioral cognitive strategies. These findings provide a starting point understanding show that it important consider processes.
